"$20.17 Centsible Savings Challenge" - Our New Year's Resolution
With a few days left of 2016, resolution setting is in full swing. A time for reflection, renewal, and optimism for the New Year. Goal setting geared towards health, wealth, and happiness flood the television and all social media outlets. By trade, I'm a Certified Public Accountant. I research, plan, execute, analyze, and adjust, so resolutions are right up my alley. I'm also realistic and base my actions on what I believe to be achievable (most of the time anyway). So in the spirit of jumping on the New Year's resolution bandwagon, I'd like to introduce you to the "$20.17 Centsible Savings Challenge.”
It’s easy to say “In 2017, I want to save more and spend less.” To which I respond “How Sway?!? How?!?” I’m big into planning and without a plan, likely that resolution will fade away into the February 2017 groundhog shadow darkness (or not…guess we’ll see in February). The plan to save should be practical and achievable. So here’s how the “$20.17 Centsible Savings Challenge” works. Each month for the next 12 months, you will deposit $20.17 into your savings account (I'll wait for the applause to die down). I want this challenge to be something we all can accomplish without overextending ourselves financially. Also if you don’t currently save on a consistent basis, this is a great way to get used to saving. See practical and achievable.
Will you get rich off of this plan? Absolutely not, but you should find comfort in the fact that you have taken the initiative to do something different for your financial future (Feel free to put away more if you can). By the end of 2017, you should have a little over $240 stashed away. I set up our $20.17 monthly electronic transfer this morning and I feel awesome knowing we are putting away money for a future use… in our high yield savings account by the way (see my post “Show me the money – Top interest earning savings accounts”).
So who will join me in the $20.17 Centsible Savings Challenge? If you do, comment on our Facebook page that you’ve accepted the Challenge. Cheers to saving sensibly in 2017 with Cents Savvy!
